Jackson, NJ: Archpriest Boris Kizenko has reposed in the Lord

On Friday morning, August 27, on the eve of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, one of the senior clerics of the Eastern American Diocese, Archpriest Boris Kizenko, peacefully passed away. Fr. Boris was a longtime cleric of St. Vladimir Memorial church in Jackson, NJ. On Tuesday, August 31, His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, will serve a Liturgy for the Departed at 8:00 AM, followed by Fr. Boris' funeral at 9:30 AM.

Baltimore, MD: Bright days at the Holy Transfiguration Church

On Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd of August, our modest church in Baltimore received prominent guests. The church glittered in its festive white garments, magnificently adorned with a multitude of beautiful and fragrant flowers. At 1:00 Saturday afternoon, Archimandrite Athanasy (Mastalski) arrived from Philadelphia, bringing with him the holy myrrh-streaming Icon of Saint Anna, mother of the Holy Theotokos. 

California, PA: The Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Trinity Church

With the blessing of His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, on Sunday, August 22, the Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Trinity Church in California, PA. The Divine Liturgy was led by parish rector Archpriest Stephan Romanchak, co-served by Priest Dionysi Vitali. Upon completion of the Liturgy, Fr. Stephan delivered a sermon on the history of the Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God.

On August 7th and 8th, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence Hilarion, Metropolitan of Eastern American and New York led the divine services in St. Panteleimon Church in Hartford, CT, whose Patronal feast is celebrated on August 9th. To the great joy of the parish, Hierodeacon Gabriel also arrived from Holy Trinity Monastery, bringing with him the wonder-working copy of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God.

Poconos, Pennsylvania: St. Seraphim Camp concludes its 16th year

The 2010 St. Seraphim’s Camp was a tremendous success. For a week, Orthodox youth gathered in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania to attend the largest Orthodox camp in the Diaspora. Nearly 250 people attended, with six priests and two protodeacons in attendance. Campers came from America, Canada, and Russia to participate.

White Haven, NY: The Port Arthur Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Protection Greek Convent

The Port Arthur Icon of the Triumph of the Theotokos visited Holy Protection Greek Orthodox Convent in White Haven, PA, on Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of August. The icon was greeted with a procession by monastery clergy and monastics during the Great Vespers on Saturday evening. After the Vespers, a Great Paraklesis to the Theotokos and Small Compline with akathist to the Theotokos were served.

St. Panteleimon’s Day in Holy Cross Monastery

When Holy Cross Monastery was founded and dedicated to the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross, the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon was chosen as the monastery’s chief intercessor. Every morning, a moleben is served before the relics and icon of St. Panteleimon, for the healing of the sick and suffering. The monastery has often received help from St. Panteleimon, and zealously honors his memory.

Daytona Beach, FL: Bishop Jerome visited the Mission of St. Andrew the First-Called

On Saturday, July 31, His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan Vicar Bishop Jerome of Manhattan performed an archpastoral visit to Florida, serving the All-Night Vigil in the mission parish of St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle in Daytona Beach. During the sixth hour, Bishop Jerome tonsured Paul Girard a reader.

On Sunday, August 1, on the eve of the feast of the Prophet Elijah, His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield, led the All-Night Vigil in the main church of Holy Cross Monastery. Bishop George was co-served by the monastery clergy. Upon completion of the All-Night Vigil, His Grace performed the monastic tonsure of two of the monastery’s residents, Rassaphor Monks Boris (Provatakis) and Marc (Dade).

Novo-Diveevo (Nanuet, NY): Patronal Feast Day in the Convent of the Dormition

On Sunday, August 1, on the feast day of the Finding of the Relics of the Venerable St. Seraphim of Sarov, a multitude of pilgrims arrived at the Convent of the Dormition, "Novo-Diveevo," to pray to the great hermit and batushka of all Russia Seraphim. The rectress of the monastery, Abbess Irene, and the convent's sisterhood took part in the divine services.
