Albany, NY: Frescoes are being painted in the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God

In the recently constructed Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in the capital of New York, Albany, the walls are being painted with marvelous frescoes. The iconographer, Archriest Theodore Jurewicz, is a cleric of the Nativity of Christ Church in Erie, PA. 

 

New York: Bishop Jerome celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Fathers

On Sunday, October 25, the Holy Fathers Church of the Seven Ecumenical Councils in New York, NY, celebrated its annual patronal feast day. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace, Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, co-served by rector Priest Alexander Botschagow, Priest Vadim Arefiev, Priest Vitaly Lialukov, Deacon Dimitri Temidis, Deacon Nathan Mousselli, and the Metropolitan’s Subdeacon George Schatiloff.

On October 13, 2009, Protodeacon Vladimir Tsurikov, Dean of Holy Trinity Seminary, arrived at the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra, where he prayed at the All-Night Vigil in the Holy Protection church of the Moscow Theological Academy. The festive services were headed by the Rector of Moscow Theological Schools Archbishop Evgenii of Vereia.

On Sunday, October 18, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Virgin Protection Church in Rochester, NY. On Thursday, October 22, the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, served the All-Night Vigil on the feast of the holy venerable Elders of Optina. His Eminence was co-served by Their Graces, Bishop George of Mayfield and Bishop Jerome of Manhattan, as well as those priests and deacons attending the conference.

On the second day of the conference, delegates departed for the wonderful Red Top Mountain State Park, where the pastoral conference's work continued. The delegates once again split into two groups: Priest John Moses led a discussion with the clergy on missionary efforts in the diocese, and Archpriest Anastasy Yatrelis led a discussion with the matushkas on a variety of spiritual topics. 

 

Atlanta: First Day of Work at the Pastoral Conference Concluded

For the second half of the first day of the pastoral conference, the delegates were split into two groups: the matuskas stayed to join a discussion with Metropolitan Hilarion and Archpriest Yaroslav Belikow, on the role and service of matushkas in the Orthodox Church. Archpriest Serge Lukianov led a discussion with the clergy, on the topic of practical liturgical methods.

Atlanta: An Icon with the Relics of all of the Holy Optina Elders Presides over the Pastoral Conference

A unique icon of the Venerable Elders of Optina, carved entirely out of wood and with the relics of all 14 Optina Elders, is presiding over the pastoral conference. The icon usually resides in St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC and, with the blessing of the rector, Mitred Archpriest Victor Potapov, was brought to the pastoral conference. This is due to the fact that the last day of the conference happens to be the day of Venerable Optina Elders.  

 

Atlanta: The Official Opening of the Pastoral Conference of the Eastern American Diocese

On Wednesday, October 21, the delegates to the pastoral conference gathered at the Church of St. Mary of Egypt for the official opening of the conference. At 9:30 AM, diocesan secretary served a moleben before the beginning of any good work, so as to call down the grace of the Holy Spirit on our Archpastors and the conference delegates. After the moleben, parish rector, Mitred Archpriest John Townsend, greeted His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion.  

 

Jackson, NJ: Bishop Jerome Celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Holy Virgin Protection Church

There is a little known additional church of this Diocese dedicated to the Protection of the Theotokos. This is the lower church of St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ. This lower church was originally dedicated to St. Olga, but in the 1960s, after an ancient, darkened icon of the Protection of the Theotokos self-renewed there, this church was rededicated in Her honor.

In the great hall of the Kuban Cossack Voisko in Krasnodar (formerly Yekaterinodar), a triumphal gathering took place on the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the restoration of the Kuban Cossack Voisko (KCV). On Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of October, His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, led the divine services at St. Nicholas Church in Stratford, CT to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the parish's founding. Upon his arrival, the parish youth greeted the Metropolitan with flower petals. His Eminence was co-served by seven priests and two deacons during the All-Night Vigil.

The first weekend of October, 2009 will be treasured in the memories of the parishioners and friends of St John the Baptist Cathedral for a long time to come. October 3rd ushered in our annual two-day Fall Bazaar. Organizers of the bazaar and their helpers worked together to create a warm mood and welcoming atmosphere, which was felt by everyone. This event is important to our parish life not only in terms of material benefit to our church, but also because it gives us the opportunity to show our heterodox guests the beauty of our temple, the depth of our Orthodox Christian faith and acquainting them with our Russian national and spiritual traditions.
