Mahopac, NY: The Sacrament of Holy Unction in the New Kursk Root Hermitage

On Sunday, March 20, 2011, the Sacrament of Holy Unction was performed at the Hermitage of Our Lady of Kursk in Mahopac, NY. The parish was blessed by the presence of the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, which arrived early with His Grace Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan. His Grace was co-served at Liturgy by parish clergy: rector Archpriest Viktor Tseshkovsky and Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis.

Upon returning from the Hillwood museum, lunch was served in the parish hall. Priest George Pavlóvich (cleric of the Diocese of Nizhny Novgorod) then delivered a lecture on "the life, labors, and teachings of St. Seraphim of Sarov as a source of inspiration for the contemporary pastor." After dinner, a litiya was served for the departed Archpastors and clergy of the diocese followed by matins, during which everybody had a chance to go to confession before Liturgy.

The operation was performed in Australia. The First Hierarch made known today that his doctors are happy with the results of the operation, and that he has already begun physiotherapy.

The Icon was greeted in procession, and after its triumphal entry into the church, the Vespers service commenced.

On Tuesday the 22nd and Wednesday the 23rd of February, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God reached the southernmost city in the contiguous United States, Key West, FL, and visited St. Nina’s Mission. The mission was named in honor of its longtime benefactress, Russian aristocrat Nina Carter, who reposed in 1998. Until the mission obtains a permanent home, services are being served once a month in a rented room at a local hotel.

The Icon arrived at the church on Saturday evening, and parish rector Archpriest Daniel McKenzie and overjoyed worshipers greeted it in procession before the church.
