On Friday, December 24, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God arrived at Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV. All of the monastery brethren came out to greet the icon, led by the monastery’s abbot His Grace George, Bishop of Mayfield. To the peal of bells, the monks triumphally carried the miraculous image into the monastery church for veneration, followed by a meal in the refectory.

On Sunday, December 12, the eve of the feast day of the Holy Apostle St. Andrew the First-Called, the wonder-working Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Philadelphia, PA. The Divine Liturgy was led by the Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA, Archbishop Justinian of Naro-Fominsk. The cathedral was consecrated by then-Bishop Tikhon (Bellavin, future Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia) in 1902.

 

New York: Documents were exchanged between the State Archive of the Russian Federation and Archive of Holy Trinity Seminary

On Friday, December 10, microfilm copies of several documents were exchanged between the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF) and Archive of Holy Trinity Seminary in the General Consulate of the Russian Federation in New York City. As a result of a joint effort directed at preservation of archive documents by GARF and the Russian Church Abroad, rare documents became accessible for researchers both from Russia and abroad.

With the blessing of His Eminence, Metropolitan Hilarion, a new book on the Wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God has been published by the Eastern American Diocese, in connection with the icon’s visitation to parishes on the east coast of the United States in December 2010 and January and February 2011. The book has been published separately in Russian and English and is fully illustrated with 66 color photographs on 53 pages.

On Sunday, December 5, Bishop Jerome of Manhattan celebrated the Divine Liturgy in St. Nicholas Church in Millville, NJ. His Grace was co-served by rector Fr. Nikolai Manduke, Protodeacon Dimitri Temidis, Deacon Irenaios Watson, and parish Deacon Jonathon Yerkes. During the Small Entrance, Bishop Jerome elevated Fr.
