His Grace was greeted with the peal of bells, and the Liturgy proceeded in triumphal fashion...

Macon, GA: The Kursk Root Icon visited St. Innocent Church

On Tuesday, February 15, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Innocent of Moscow Church in Macon, GA. In the newly constructed, Georgian-style church, Eastern American Diocesan secretary Archpriest Serge Lukianov, who was accompanying the Icon, led the moleben and akathist, co-served by the parish rector, Priest Theophan Buck. Upon completion of the moleben, Fr. Serge delivered a sermon to the gathered faithful on the travels and miracles of the Kursk Icon.

This performance, under artistic direction of Princess Elena N.Wolkonsky was the 92nd in a musical series which benefits the restoration of the historical Synod building (Baker Mansion).

On Friday, February 11, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited St. Elizabeth the New Martyr Church in Columbia, the capital of South Carolina. The parish recently acquired a new church building, as well as a parking lot and hall, and parishioners were overjoyed at the opportunity to have the Mother of God bless their new property. The Icon was greeted in procession in front of the church, and parish children threw flower petals in its path.

On Thursday, February 10, the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Summerville, SC, founded in the 1970s by Archbishop Nikon (Rklitsky). Before the arrival of the Icon at the church, a warm reception was held at the Continental Corner Greek restaurant, owned by none other than the church’s rector, Archpriest Anastasy Yatrelis. After the reception, the Icon was greeted by procession in front of the church.

The community of Holy Trinity Church was founded in 1991, and has for many years lacked a church building. By God’s mercy, the parishioners were able to obtain land and an old furniture factory, which is currently undergoing major renovations to convert it to a beautiful Orthodox church.
